Hola:
Hoy comienza el blog Harris World Tour Parte 2.

Hola:
Today marks the beginning of the blog Harris World Tour Part 2. For new readers—or those who might have forgotten—here is a bit of context: eight years ago, my family and I traveled around the world for a full year. Written down, it sounds crazy, but yes, we did it, and it has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life!
Gregory and I had wanted to do part two for a while, but something always came up at home. We finally decided to go ahead now that our children are independent and living in Los Angeles, CA. Sunshine graduated in Art History last year and works out there, while Daniel is in his third year of Civil Engineering. We are officially in the empty nest phase, and honestly, I am so happy to be traveling with my adventure partner!
So, I decided to leave my job as a Spanish teacher (though it was a hard decision to make, I am now happy and much more rested!). Gregory bought another business that he can run online from anywhere in the world, and that was the final push we needed.
This time, everything is simpler. For various reasons, we chose a nearby destination: the beautiful Mexico City. We didn't have to sell furniture or pack up everything; plus, a friend is taking care of our house and our cats.
We've been here for two weeks, and it feels like a lifetime has passed, mostly because of the variety of cafes and places we've visited. I promise to recommend some key spots and must-visit restaurants!
That said, the beginning had its hiccups. Viva Aerobus canceled our morning flight (I don't recommend them), and we didn't end up leaving until 10:00 p.m., arriving at 3am. I was nervous, imagining deserted streets, but the city looked as vibrant as if it were still 10:00 p.m.
Our first Airbnb in the Roma neighborhood didn't last long: too much noise, an uncomfortable couch, and no television. Gregorio found an amazing apartment in Condesa, and we moved, but guess what? They were remodeling the floor above us! We had to practice patience, apply what we've learned through meditation, and keep our peace. At first it was difficult to meditate with the street noise and teach my online classes over the sound of the drill, but I learned to concentrate and tune it out.
The bright side is that we loved the area and quickly established a routine: meditation, walking, breakfast, and work. I've decided these three months will be about working on myself physically, spiritually, creatively, and socially!
I won't write every day, as I keep a personal journal, but I will share summaries and reflections. Although Gregory doesn't like me calling us tourists, that's how I feel: as if I'm watching a great movie from the outside, appreciating it through different eyes. Perhaps it's because I'm in no rush; I don't have to be rushing off to places, and I forget to check my phone often. We've also met some very interesting people.
That is enough for today. Tomorrow we say goodbye to this lovely apartment on Avenida Nuevo León to move into our third Airbnb in the Cuauhtémoc neighborhood. I know we'll adapt quickly, but I have already fallen in love with Avenida Ámsterdam: our daily walks, the little cafes, and seeing so many dogs of all colors and sizes.
Speaking of dogs, I recommend Café Snoopy if you love Snoopy like I do. Besides drinks, they have special treats for your pets.
I'll leave you with some photos!
