Feria Internacional del Libro en el Zocalo
Hola,
Hello,
On Saturday, October 17th, I had the opportunity to present and sign my second book, My First Pet, at the Zócalo International Book Fair in Mexico City. It was an unforgettable experience since I had never presented in Mexico before!
Getting there was quite an adventure: between the terrible traffic due to the closure of Reforma Avenue and the stress of walking on foot, I arrived with my nerves on edge! Good thing I had my personal GPS, my husband Gregorio, or I would have gotten lost. I didn't know what to expect from the event, but after selling my first copy, everything started to flow. I began chatting with the children, inviting them to color a small sheet featuring the book's cover and talking about their pets, which brought the parents over to converse with me.
I spoke with families who were very enthusiastic about having their children learn English. I congratulated several parents for encouraging reading at an early age, and the funniest part was that they wanted to take pictures with me as if I were a famous person! In the end, I sold 10 books—well, I gifted one to a little girl who was selling waters and shaved ice with her family and had no resources. I surprised her the next day, Sunday; I went to her shaved ice stand, and when I gave her the book, her very grateful mother gave me a giant glass of lemonade with chia seeds.
We left the center overwhelmed by the sea of people—it felt like India with so many smells and noises—, but we finally managed to get an Uber and went home to rest!
