Day 268 - Last Day in Ngwe Saung

Monday, April 1st, 2019.

Today is our last day at the beach so we put our swimsuits before going to breakfast. We all agreed to walk to the Bay of Bengal resort and sit at the bar which is right above the sand. When we got there, the bar wasn't opened and we had a security guard behind our backs making sure we didn't stray off the path. I guess there is security after all! [Gregory's note: all the expensive resorts here have guards. The mistake we made was to walk in off the beach. We should have walked along the sand a little farther. Instead, we had a guard follow a few meters behind us to see if we were going to -- what? Break into a family room?]

Fortunately right out on the sand were some huts with wooden lounges and plastic chairs. The beach was empty and we decided to sit there. I ordered a coconut even if I wasn't in the mood yet just to use the shade. We had a great day because we had a nice palapa, an almost deserted beach, and food and drinks whenever we wanted!

We swam a little farther away because there were some rocks in the water. Later in the afternoon, we met Gilly and Charlie, a nice English couple. They have done a lot of travel in SE Asia and they gave us a lot of tips for Vietnam.

The afternoon went by really quickly just chatting with them. Very interesting and sweet people. Charlie reminded me of my dad because he had Parkinson's. When I shared with them that some people criticized our trip, he said, "You are going to be OK" and for some strange reason, I really felt it and it gave me peace and reassurance, as though it were a message from my dad. Even writing it now brings tears to my eyes. I also don't believe in coincidence, so there you have it!

We walked back home around 5:30, almost sunset, but the kids didn't want to wait. When we got back, our room had not been cleaned and I got pretty upset because I just wanted to take a shower. I called the manager and they came to clean our room. After my cold shower, I was ready to go out for drinks with our English friends but Gregory was not feeling great so we ended up staying in the hotel. He wanted me to go by myself but I just got lazy and put on my pajamas and finish packing. We return to Yangon tomorrow. [Gregory's note: we're talking about 100 meters up the road, not a taxi ride or something, to Soe Ko Ko.]
