Day 215 - Looking for Safaris, a New Apartment and a Visit to the Medical Clinic

Sunday, February 3rd, 2019.

We woke up at 8:30am with the screech of big birds! We had breakfast and sat all morning researching for safaris. Of course, Gregory found much better deals than the girl gave us yesterday. Now we need to decide how many days and figure out where are we going to leave our big suitcases and where are we going to stay next.

As the morning passed, I was worried about Sunshine who was tired and had a temperature. Gregory and I decided to take her to the Medical Clinic because we were worried that it was malaria. I was so nervous that I even cried. Gregory, with his usual calmness (thank God) contacted our host who sent a driver to take us to the hospital.

I was expecting the worst, but the Old Arusha Clinic was a clean, simple building. Thankfully, it wasn’t crowded, either. We walked in to ask where to go for a blood test, they directed us to the laboratory area where we waited for 15 minutes for the doctor. When it was our turn, he poked Sunshine’s finger, told Gregory to pay the cashier and wait for 15 minutes for the results. Great news, she was negative. She is only fighting a cold! Since it was early and we had our driver, we arranged to see an Airbnb that looked much nicer than where we are staying. It is isolated, a 10-minute walk down a dirt road next to the Arusha Coffee Lodge, a very upscale lodge, but then again, we are in the middle of nowhere where we are now, and we can’t go anywhere without requesting a taxi. I will miss the cook that we haven’t been able to take advantage of, but we will be more comfortable.

Our new host also sent us good safari quotes, even a little better than what Gregory had found online. We are going tomorrow to see the car and the equipment and to pay for a 3 night, 4 day safari covering the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire parks. After that, we came home, had a late lunch and relaxed for the rest of the day.

I don't think there is much to see in Arusha from what I have seen. It is a big city but nothing exciting. People come here mostly for the safaris and that's what we plan to do next week. The rest of our stay, we plan to do day trips to different places, like a lagoon or hike another mountain or just drive to see Kilimanjaro.
