Day 267 - A Lazy Day in Ngwe Saung

Sunday, March 31st, 2019.

Yay, last day of March. We are tired of the sun. We skipped the pool and beach in the morning. For some funny reason, we had Wifi all day -- no electricity, but Wifi, so we stayed in our rooms all morning. I tried to catch up on the blog. I'm up to date and I plan to keep it that way!

Around 4:00pm we went out for lunch. On our way to the restaurant, we took a different side road. One that had more local houses. All shacks and very simple without electricity. People were sitting outside their homes probably where they can get a breeze of air. People are extremely friendly here and one older man stopped us to shake our hands and kept saying "Mingalaba", which means hello, hello. When we stopped to check his hand, he grabbed Gregory's hand and just gave him a big warm hug, and then one to each of us. We all left with a big smile on our faces.

We continue our walk and when we made it to the main road, the only one paved, we try to find something different to eat but all the restaurants serve the same food. All the food stands sell the same thing and all the clothing and souvenirs sell the same stuff! I really don't understand why nobody gets creative and sells something different.

I was even thinking about suggesting sushi at the restaurants. They make white sticky rice, they eat seaweed, and they catch a lot of fresh fish and crab every day! I don't get it.

After we ate, the kids went back to the hotel and Gregory and I walked to the beach. We stopped at the Bay of Bengal resort. It was beautiful and because we are Westerners, they assume we are guests. I get a little nervous but not Gregory. We sat in the lobby, we found a bookshelf and Gregory found a Judy Blume book for Sunshine. I stayed there and started to read it while he walked to the near ATM to get cash to pay for the bus tickets and our last night at the hotel.

We walked back to our hotel but first, we stopped for drinks at another little guest house called Soe Ko Ko. They took forever to prepare my mojito. I saw later that they had to go get my fresh mint for it. Gregory and I had a nice date!
