Day 264 - Another Day at the Beach

Thursday, March 28th, 2019.

Another relaxing day at the beach. Gregory wanted to do research and maybe go snorkeling or go to an island but no one seemed excited. Sunshine was still feeling queasy and Daniel looked tired. Me honestly, just wanted to go to the deserted resort hotel, pay the $20 for the chair on the sand and sit down and read. I’m not interested in doing anything, I just want a nice place with shade, is that too much to ask?

I also get upset when everyone is just taking their time when I had suggested to leave early to avoid the strongest hours of sun but because we are going to bed at midnight, we are waking up late, having breakfast by 9:30 and leaving the rooms around 11:00. The late start means hours of sun and I really didn’t want the sun where I have my rash.

We finally left the hotel and made our way to the beach, we ran into the German couple again, who advised us to walk to an area where there are more palms and huts. At first, we were hesitant because it seemed far away but in the end we did it. We found the place, it was a nice resort hotel that seemed deserted. [Gregory's note: actually, we didn't. We were walking down the beach when we came upon some huts with lounge chairs in front of a resort but it was definitely not the place they had mentioned.]
We were the only people on the beach. Later we saw another Chinese couple and another Western couple. No one came to kick us out or bother us so we spend a very nice day at the beach, enjoying the water and the shade. [Gregory's note: and the sand here was a lot whiter, and there were palm trees all around, which looks a lot like Mexico but they don't bring your drink to your palapa, so I guess Lili would still find a reason to prefer a Mexican beach.]

When we walked to the hotel bar on the sand. We found two guards there who phoned a waiter to coe because we wanted a coconut. They brought us the drinks menu and guess what? No coconuts!!! I could not believe it. Maybe for the best because the drinks were expensive. I mean $2 for a Coke when I know in the village they cost $0.35. Ok, I’m kidding, I know $2 is nothing but after seeing the prices in the village, the resorts seemed so expensive! [Gregory's note: they could have walked 100 meters to the next stand on the beach for a coconut, buy it and sell it to us at a markup, but they didn't think of that.]

I had time to read my book, my favorite part of a vacation. Read in the shade
with the view of the ocean and no interruptions. What else can you ask for? Maybe a Diet Coke and a snack? Maybe I was thinking about food because it was almost 4:00 and we hadn’t had lunch. We decided it was time to leave and we walked through the hotel so we could check it out!

It was so beautiful that Sunshine said that she would love to pay to use that pool! When we walked from the main door, all the staff stood up and waved at us! I’m sure they thought we were staying there.

We walked to the village and almost immediately we found a restaurant that had a sign advertising pizza, hamburgers and Western food. Both kids were dying for something other than rice and noodles! I love the conversations that we have at the table when we all sit down, eat slowly and talk. I think this will be the part of the trip that I will miss the most.

After lunch, I kind of wanted to take a tuk-tuk home but we were so full that we decided to walk. We stopped in some of the stores to look at the shirts. We stopped in what seemed to be the biggest grocery store in town and got some snacks for tonight or tomorrow for the beach. We walked and took some pictures and finally made it to our hotel. Sunshine and I jumped into the pool. We played for a while and then around 6:00 went inside for our shower.

We all wait for the clock to strike 6 because that's when the electricity comes back and we get AC and Wifi! We spent a few hours writing, reading, writing, and catching up in emails until it was time for bed. The funny thing is that no one has turned on the TV at all. [Gregory's note: the kids never turn on the TV -- they just stream videos on their iPads.]
