Day 263 - Beach Day

Wednesday, March 27th, 2019.

Today we started the day at the pool. We met this very nice German couple at breakfast and we chatted for a while. The kids were tired and no one really wanted to venture out in the heat of the day. Sunshine and Daniel jumped into the pool while we talked.

After a while, everyone chose to do their own thing. Gregory went back into the room to write. Daniel wasn’t feeling well so he went to take a nap in his room. Sunshine and I stayed by the pool reading and then talking to Lajana, the German woman.

Around 2:00 we decided to walk to the village for lunch. We found a nice restaurant called Table 5 and by nice I mean, the floor was paved and they had ceiling fans. Sunshine immediately said that it was an upgrade because the tables had tablecloths.

The food was delicious but it was mostly Gregory and I who ate the five dishes that we ordered. Why? Sunshine was still not very hungry and she didn’t even finish the cucumber curry that she asked for, maybe because she was expecting cold and fresh cucumbers but instead there were cooked and warm. Daniel, not sure why.

After lunch, we walked down the main road to see the many small stores that sell all sorts of souvenirs, food, and dried fish. Daniel and I are not enjoying the smell of dried fish, plus with the heat, it makes it more intense. We walked to the pharmacy looking for some kind of medicine for Sunshine’s upset stomach and cream for a rash that I got (probably because of the sum). The pharmacy was pretty small and they had almost no medicine. [Gregory's note: they also didn't have electricity, so no refrigeration in 90+ degree heat -- let the buyer beware!]

Afterward, we went to walk to the beach and Sunshine really wanted to go in the water so I volunteered to go with her. For some funny reason, the salty water really made our skin itch, it was probably the rash that I got or dry skin or just the salt. We didn’t stay long. We came out, dried off, and later the kids went home. Gregory and I stayed for a romantic sunset. On our way back to the hotel, we found the German couple, Reiner and Lajana, and we walked back together. I excused myself to take a shower but when I came out, they were sitting outside by the pool. I joined them and we chatted until 11:00pm. This couple was from East Germany and they had traveled quite a bit so they gave us many interesting tips. We really enjoyed their company so we exchanged information and we invited them to visit us in San Diego!
