Day 162 - Beach day in Aqaba
Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
Today we spend long hours on the phone with Chase and UPS. My credit card was compromised and Chase sent me a new card to our old place. When we contact UPS, they told us they didn't have enough information to deliver. We called, gave more info and still nothing. Very frustrating. The kids took advantage and did homework all morning. After lunch, I took the kids to the beach before we missed the sun. Gregory stayed home still dealing with the credit card.
The kids and I walked to the beach. After we settled, Sunshine and Daniel were ready to jump into the water when a man came out with a large sea urchin and the kids changed their mind. We extended our towels in the very dirty beach covered with cigarette butts. Gregory came later to join us and we sat there for a while to watch locals enjoying the beach.
Daniel and I went to ask how much would it be to take a glass bottom boat. The man happened to be a half Italian so we chatted and tried to negotiate. The price was high, even with his special discount. We told him that we wanted to check prices first and that we would think about it. After leaving the beach, we stopped in a diving business where we met two very nice girls that were speaking Italian. They were asking information about the snorkel. The owner was happy to put together a boat for all of us but they were charging 35 JD for each of us, which is like $50 per person. That was too much for us so we said no.
The good thing about walking in there was that we met the Italian and Romanian girls who gave us very good tips and advice about going to Petra. Thank you, Francesca and her sweet friend (sorry I forgot your name) for your help.
When we walked out, we saw an interesting souvenir shop. We walked in, got some old postcards and talked to the owner. He was so funny. I guess I like him because he said that I looked very young and prettier than Sunshine. I laughed and told him that he was a good salesperson.
After that, we walked home and took my first very long shower in a decent shower. Our last place didn't really have one with a door. It is amazing how you start to appreciate small things in life!
We watched a movie, had pasta and salad for dinner and went to bed at midnight. Tomorrow we are taking a taxi and go snorkeling!
