Day 144 - Home Day - Logo - Sunshine's Ear Piercing

Saturday, November 24, 2018.

Today it was so hard to get up when the alarm went off! We were going to take a cruise on the Bosphorus today but we checked the weather and tomorrow is going to be better so we decided to stay home. I wanted to go back to bed after breakfast but chose to motivate and vacuum the house! What? you're thinking. Well, I guess it was driving me crazy seeing all those hairs on the white tile floor, so I did something about it.

Gregory and I left around noon to try to find a photocopy place where we can print our logo so we can use it for our Instagram pics. We did find one little shop but the internet there was not working and I couldn't send them the picture. We walked around the neighborhood and found doner kebab for 5TL including a glass of ayran! That's the cheapest we've found! Afterward, Gregory went to get a haircut, don't ask me. He will write about it. [Gregory's note: it was a haircut with a shampoo and short massage that came to 25TL, about $5. The guy didn't speak a word of English and couldn't read the Google Translate phrases, either.]

I went to the grocery store to get supplies for the four days we have left. I think we are all tired of being tourists and having to see things on the checklist. We stayed home for lunch. Later in the afternoon, we went out again looking for a photocopy place. My cousin MariCarmen told us we should have a common "specialty" or "thing" so we could distinguish ourselves from the rest of the families traveling around the world --  you would be surprised to find that we're not the only ones! We found a place and got it printed, cut, and laminated in 15 minutes, which it is was the exact time we had before they closed. The staff was not friendly and were sure to let us know that they were closing at 5:00pm.

Afterward, we took Sunshine to get her ear pierced. I was ready to pay 70 TL, which is what we understood last time. Well, Gregory wanted to bargain. He said, 50 and the guy agreed. He put the piercing gun to Sunshine's ear and just like that it was done. I handed him 100TL and we got 85 change -- the piercing had cost 15, not 50 TL -- about $3. I almost wanted to get another piercing for that price but I worry about infections so I didn't.

We walked some more down Istiklal Street, looking at stores and people watching. We stopped in a cafe in Cicek Passage because Gregorio wanted his beer and us, our famous Turkish tea. [Gregory's note: it's really hard to find beer here!]

We chatted and then we decided to buy Daniel some gummi worms since Sunshine is getting all the attention and presents! When we got home, Daniel told us that Mustafa, our host, had sent us a box of baklava. I couldn't resist it and had two balaclavas for dinner.

Sunshine designed the logo in no time!

In our neighborhood, there are many "male cafes" where they gather to drink tea.
