Day 93 - Zadar
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018.
We set up the alarm at 7:30am but I hit snooze twice! We finally got up and the kids started school after breakfast. I really wanted to leave in the morning, do another visit to downtown, climb the tower, maybe visit the archeological museum, but we decided to give priority to Sunshine's homework. By the time she finished, it was lunch time. I made bean and cheese burritos. This would normally be a common meal in the US but finding the ingredients in Croatia was a challenge! The corn tortillas were sweet and the white beans didn't have much flavor but my family loved them anyway.
After lunch, we walked to the town. We stopped first by the high school to see if we could visit the school and give a small presentation. The principal was out and we were told to come the next day in the morning to talk to the vice principal. The kids were happy because they didn't want to go, plus they haven't done the presentation I told them to do before we made this trip!
When we made it to downtown. Sunshine suggested we climb the bell tower, but Gregory and I needed some fuel -- that is, coffee for me and beer for him! We went back to the cozy coffee place where Daniel and I had our ice cream last time. I love to see how we engage in conversation. I don't know if the rest of the family noticed but when we can't connect to Wifi, we actually talk! What a surprise, huh? After our drinks, we walked back to the tower and guess what? it was closed! Not again! This keeps happening to us for not planning or for starting the day too late. We didn't care much this time, we just went around to see the Roman ruins here, discovered after allied bombing exposed them during WWII. What's really cool is all these artifacts are hands-on -- you can climb them, sit on them, jump off of them, not like in Italy, where preservation is paramount!
After that, we walked and took some pictures. It was so beautiful and peaceful. We thought about going out for dinner, but our health queen, Sunshine, suggested that we should eat at home. We all wanted pizza so we stopped at the grocery store for milk and pizza! We came home and had pizza and a movie: Forrest Gump this time.
