Day 74 - School - Shopping day - Mexican dinner
Thursday, September 13, 2018.
We got up early today and started school on time. Sunshine needs to catch up. She is behind because we couldn't download her online History book. Her teacher took pictures of each page and send them as PDFs. They were hard to read but we are getting there and by we, I mean both of us. She will do it alone next month but right now I'm just helping her to motivate her and show support. It is hard when everyone else is on vacation. Daniel has no problem starting math by himself and then he writes in his journal about the trip. He is a little behind, he is writing about Venice but I told him to read about the history of Rome because that's where we are going tomorrow!
After lunch, Gregory and Daniel went to Fiesole and the girls went shopping. It felt so weird to be in Florence in a different area and just window shopping. It feels like there are two Florences, one for the tourists and one for the Italians. I planned this shopping day because I noticed that Sunshine is bored with her clothes and doesn't feel great about how she looks. Most of the Italian girls look gorgeous and are skinny. When we went to the last store, Sunshine finally found something she liked but it didn't fit her. When we came out of the store she said: "I forgot how much I hate shopping." She said the store we went to is for skinny people. I tried to cheer her up with the Mexican dinner that we were going to cook that night.
We went to Coop to get all the ingredients for the Mexican burritos. I can't believe that the meat was actually cheaper than the tortillas! By the time, we made it home it was 7:30pm and I was worried about not having enough time to prepare the meat and the beans. We also prepared arroz con leche (rice pudding). Cinzia and Lavinia wanted to learn so they stayed in the kitchen and helped Sunshine and me. Dinner was a success. Everyone kept complimenting me and saying: "Buono, eh? Buono." Andrea came later and had 3 big burritos, I guess for not having the exact ingredients that I use at home, it wasn't bad at all!
I thought it was weird that Gregory only ate one. Later I found out that he and Daniel had gone to a cafe bar where they had pizza and drinks. No wonder! After dinner, we finish packing our small backpack for Rome.
