Day 59- Nice - Dinner with Descraques Family

Wednesday Agust 29, 2018.

We were all tired from the last two days. It sounds hard to believe but traveling can be tiring! We did get up on time so we start getting used to the schedule but we took it very slowly. We finally left the house at around 2:00pm. We didn't know what we were going to do except that I wanted to see the Russian church, Gregory wanted to see the Negresco hotel and the kids didn't want to do anything. We all finally agreed to go to the old town and walk around and have a final Nutella crepe.

We were supposed to meet with the Descraques family at 5:00pm but there were waiting for a doctor's appointment so it took them longer to arrive. Meanwhile, Sunshine and I looked in many stores for a swimsuit. We were going for a swim and she didn't bring her swimsuit. It is not her fault, men just don't know how to make plans. [Gregory's note: I did make plans, but no one wanted to follow them! Note that we did not end up seeing the Negresco.]We didn't find anything but by the time they arrived and we walked to the beach it was 6:00pm. Gregory and Daniel arrived shortly with the long-awaited socca, a fried garbanzo bean paste. Delicious, what's not to like!
Around 7:00pm we walked to the old town to get salads and drinks for dinner. Vanessa got handmade ravioli at a local store. We all walked to their old apartment. We climbed the 6 floors. I can not imagine living here or bringing the groceries! We had a lovely and abundant dinner of salad, daube, and ravioli.

We finished dinner around 9:00pm and got ready leave. We said our goodbyes with the hope of seeing this family again. Gregory is very fond of them because he spent a lot of time with them when he was a student in Nice and on subsequent visits. We also love to have local friends that can show us around and give us tips about different places that we are visiting.

We walked along the Promenade des Anglais for the last time holding hands. Daniel was tired and complaining a little bit until I asked, "how many times do we get to do this in San Diego?" Exactly.
