Day 51 - Marseille - Swimming in the Mediterrenean sea - Wine and cheese with friends
Day 51 Tuesday, August 21, 2018.
Today we decided to stay in Marseille mostly because we were all tired from our day in Aix yesterday. When you book a tour with Gregory Harris, be assured that you will get to see every corner of the city, except museums! Our friend Virginie was surprised when we told her that when we sit down to have a drink, we only stay for 15 to 20 minutes, after that, he is ready to go like he is on a mission. We don’t complain, we actually like it but that means that the next day we need to relax. I took advantage of our free day to clean the beautiful house we stayed at. Did I mention that we got to stay for free? Our friends the Amabiles asked their neighbors if we could stay at their place since they were gone all of August. They said yes, so we scored with a beautiful and spacious home for a week. We are forever grateful to both families. I made a promise to myself, to welcome more tourists and travelers from around the world even if we don’t know them! Everyone has welcomed us with open arms, we are very lucky.
Anyway, going back to my cleaning day, well I guess there is nothing special to talk about, except that even for cleaning, things are different and I desperately need Easy Off for the stove to remove the grease but they didn’t have anything like that around the house. We wanted to hire professional help but unfortunately, the Amabile's cleaning lady wasn’t available and we had to do it ourselves.
I’m very proud of my family who all helped very much, of course, I had to come back, check and do it again because we all know how teenagers clean.
Gregory and Sunshine went to a music store to see if they could get Sunshine’s guitar fixed. It broke on our trip from Paris to Marseille. Sunshine was very upset and she waited until the last day to do something about it. They couldn’t fix it, plus we only had one full day left.
Around 5:30pm, the girls, Virginie, Rosalie, Sunshine and I, went swimming at the beach. It was still hot out and swimming sounded great. I was surprised to see how small the beach was and full of pebbles instead of sand. I was very spoiled with the nice sand in Mexico, but I can not say that about their sea life. Oh my God, the number of animals I saw underneath my feet. At first, I was wearing my goggles and I was trying to catch up with Virginie who was ahead of me, but mostly because I didn’t want to get lost. When Virginie was done, she offered me her snorkel and Oh my God, what a difference! I was in paradise. It was so impressive to see the seascape and so many fish swimming so close to me. I felt like I was a mermaid or more like a fish swimming with my school! I felt at home, I didn’t care where I was or where I was going, I had a wonderful time. After a while, it got cold and I decided to go back to the pebble beach. We sat there for a little bit, Virginie’s mom arrived and sat with us for a little while and then she went into the water which by the way, was cold. I want to be like her when I grow older!
I had forgotten that we were going to have a drink with Virginie and Philip on our terrace in the evening. When we got home, Gregory was waiting for me to make a phone call to the credit card company who had blocked our card again for safety reason but we couldn’t buy the tickets to go to Nice. After we got that done, I rushed upstairs to take a shower. Around 8:30pm, Philip and Virginie came with pate and bread. We had a lovely time drinking, eating bread and cheese and speaking French. I love the fact that I can almost understand everything, but I have a hard time expressing myself. Would love to come back and spend more time immersed in France. We finished at midnight. For us, it was ok because we are on vacation, but Philip had to wake up early to go to work at the Hospital.
