Day 48 - The Old Port of Marseille

Saturday, August 18th, 2018.

Today we got up late, hang around and had lunch at home. We then walk to the port of Marseille because we wanted to go to see the Chateau d' If. We stopped on our way down to see a wedding in a medieval church called St. Victor. We also stopped in the oldest boulangerie of Marseille. When we got down to the port, we saw big lines to buy tickets for the ferry. We stood in line for a while in the heat of the ray and after a while, I went to look around to see if I could find another place that sold the tickets but with shorter lines. I didn't find anything but asking around, I was told that there were no more ferries going the chateau because it was too crowded. We got out of line to plan what to do next and went to get a drink. In a way, we were kind of happy to stay and relax because it was just too hot.
After a while, we decided to walk north of the old port of Marseille. We walked to Le Panier, this part of town has been inhabited since 600 BC and was a Greek Colony. We then stop to see La Vieille Charite, a 17th-century baroque almhouse with three tiers of arcaded galleries around a Chapel. We sat in the courtyard to rest. They also had a nice photography exhibition.
We continue our walkthrough stairs, boutiques and stores, cafes and colorful art walls.
We took the bus home but before we made a stop at a grocery store to get some ingredients I needed for tomorrow's lunch. When we got home, we went upstairs to see a beautiful sunset and to work on our computers. I would love to have this terrace as an office. Amazing view and sunsets!
