Day 46 - Marseille - Antoines birthday

Thursday, August 16, 2018.

Today we got up at 10:30am. We were so tired after those long, intense days in Paris, that we decided to take it super easy. We, or should I say, I did our laundry and went to Super U to get some groceries with Rosalie, their older daughter. I felt rich with a car and was able to buy a watermelon because I wasn't going to have to walk home carrying it in the sun like we've been doing! It took us a while to get what we needed, mostly because we wanted to get all the food that we needed for a week. We are normally used to getting what we need for a few days and then we go back again. I also wanted to cook a Mexican dinner for them, so it was hard to find the right ingredients. After an hour, we got everything and came home. Virginie invited us over for lunch. Did I mention that she is a great cook?! We had two simple delicious types of salad with bread and cheese. I'm just learning that less is more and that simple is better!

After lunch, we came back home to rest and finish catching up on emails and the blog. Around 8:00pm, we were called to come downstairs for Antoine's birthday dinner. He is their youngest and their only son, who wasn't alive when we first met Virginie, and now he was turning 16 years old. It was a family birthday dinner, so we met Virginie parents as well as her cousin and his boyfriend. We had a lovely time eating and chatting outside in their backyard. Everything was made from scratch, the pizza, the rice cakes and nachos with guacamole ( I was thrilled!). We had a homemade banana pie requested by the birthday boy for dessert. Once again, we finished eating and chatting around midnight.

I just love how much time the French people spend preparing and enjoying their food. I like no rushing and family time. It reminds me of my family reunions at my grandparents' house every Sunday in Mexico!

Joyeux Anniversaire Antoine!

Yummy food, great company!
