Day 176 - Dinner at Cafe Riche and Coffee Alongside The Nile

Wednesday, December 26th, 2018. Stay at home day

Got up at 10:00am, had a nice brunch and stayed home almost all day.

We needed to rest, to catch up with the blog, find plane tickets for Luxor, find a place to stay and do laundry. Ah, how I miss my washing machine and my dryer! Today I used a washing machine that has the washing on one side and the spinner on another. You have to manually move the clothes to the spinner section and now I’m debating if I should hang  my clean clothes
outside. All Cairo is dirty, even the air, it is just so dusty but I don’t know where else to hang up my wet clothes. See everyone, it's not all vacation!

Daniel finally made his brownies with Nutella that he has been wanting to bake since Jordan. That was our lunch! We snacked in the afternoon and around 6:00pm, Gregory and I went out for dinner to Tahrir square. He found an restaurant called Cafe Riche which is considered the oldest restaurant in Cairo. The food was just OK, small portions and  terrible service but at least it looked clean! We had a good time until we realized they only took cash and my husband who doesn't like to take out a lot of money didn't have enough. He had to go find an ATM. Of course, he doesn't mind. Meanwhile, I'm waiting at the restaurant thinking what will I do if he doesn't come back, lol! [Husband: ha, ha, ha.]

After dinner, we walked around looking for a power bank for Daniel (the only thing he wanted for Christmas.) We found one!

This area of Cairo is not so dirty and is quite nice,It's where the Ritz Carlton, the Intercontinental, the Sheraton, and a few other hotels are.

After that, we crossed the Nile to the island and went to have a drink next in one of the riverside cafes. It was so pretty at night when you can not see the trash. Again, we felt ripped off at the end when they charged for the water that they poured in front of us. It wasn't expensive at all, really it was only 50 cents and probably not worth getting upset about. But because the manager was there, we told him what happened and he just kept apologizing and saying that they had to follow the rules for tourist (which of course, means to charge them more for everything). It shouldn't bother us but it does and we need to let it go if we plan to survive more weeks in Egypt.

Once again, we didn't have Internet or data to request an Uber. It wasn't late but I get very anxious about leaving the kids alone in another country, mostly here. We had to cross the street to a nice hotel to get WiFi. I really panic having to cross the streets. Gregory said, I can't believe you are from Mexico and you don't know how to cross the street. Well, honestly, thank God I never had to! Anyway, we went inside the hotel, got the password, requested Uber and went home. The kids were waiting for us awake. I still want to go home to Encinitas! *sigh*.
