Day 157 - Another rainy day at home - Dinner with chilenian friends

Friday, December 7th, 2018.

Today we stayed home all day. It rained really hard all day long. In the morning after a late breakfast, our mission was to get to the grocery store to get food before Shabbat. During breakfast we had our host come and check the leak in the corner. He said it came from upstairs from a bathtub, but we showed him the rest of the house. He brought the tenant from upstairs to see our house while we were having breakfast. It was a little uncomfortable, I wanted him to wait until we left to bring him in. Anyway, we finished breakfast, ran to the grocery store, which luckily is just around the corner. It was packed, everyone was getting their food for the weekend because almost everything closes on Friday afternoon for Shabbat. If you are not Jewish or you're just a tourist, it is very frustrating. At least this time we were prepared because of last Friday. Normally this would be okay if we had a cozy home to hibernate in, but I can't complain, we have a roof over our heads.
We got the food we needed for our last 3 days in Israel. The bummer is that we can't go anywhere because of the rain. There had been floods and roads closed so it is not even worth trying to go somewhere. The good thing is that we get to rest and I think we are all kind of happy about it, we are hitting the point where we are all tired and don't want to see any more attractions. It is unfortunate that we felt this way here in Israel. I had dreamed of coming here and visiting every single spot Jesus set foot on, but now that I'm here, I just want to stay home and rest!
After breakfast, we ran to the Sheraton Hotel to drop off the key to the last apartment we stayed in. Gregory and I stayed and hung out in the lobby, watching the huge waves through the window and having a cappuccino to keep up the tradition.

Sunshine prepared lunch. The couscous was not so tasty without olive oil (we didn't buy any, we decided to wait for our next destination so we wouldn't have to carry the bottle.) I took a long nap while the rest of the family entertained themselves with their electronics. When I woke up, I had a text from Gloria, the Chilean woman we met on the tasting tour last Tuesday. They invited us to their apartment for dinner. I first proposed for them to come to the Sheraton because we don't have a car, but we ended up taking a taxi and we made it to their apartment for dinner.

We truly had a lovely time with them. Very simple and funny family. Hector works for the Chilenian embassy and they arrived two weeks ago. We chatted about traveling, meeting people of different cultures, about our countries and so much more until midnight. Poor Daniel was so tired and kept kicking me under the table, signaling he was ready to go. Gregory accepted another beer from Hector and we continued our chat until midnight. We laughed so hard learning different slang words from Chile that we don't have in Mexico. I will start using the word "huevada" instead of "stuff". We took a selfie for the record and then we said our goodbyes. Ricardo, their son was very kind to drive us back home in the storm! We went to bed around 1:00am. I don't think we are going to make it to the Dead Sea tomorrow, but they predicted another rainy day anyway.

Having a cappuccino on a rainy and cold winter day at the Sheraton.

The Sheraton lobby, nice!
