In the morning we took the bus to Carmel Market. Only Gregory and I went to the free tasting tour! Sunshine wanted to come but she had homework to do and Daniel, well is Daniel, and if you give him the choice, he will always pick home over anything. We had a great time. I wish I hadn't eaten breakfast because we started tasting food around 10:30am. Our guide name was Yakob, he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He walked us around the market which it was full of food stand, clothes, toys, candy, desserts, etc. We came out of the market and walked around the neighborhood where we got to see the nice and small homes which are expensive. He explained how the place is changing, how the poor people are moving out of what it was a bad neighborhood and now is becoming trendy. We also stop in another local shop where they prepared all sort of hummus. It was delicious. We met in the tour an American named James (Jaime) who lived and taught in Guanajuato, my hometown. When I asked to take a picture together, he showed me his cap that said Guanajuato. I hadn't even noticed. During the tour, we also met lovely people from Chile who had just arrived two weeks ago. We clicked right away and said that we could meet another day!

Hey, Sweetie -- put this hat on so you can look like a total tourist, wearing a fez in Israel! |

We met wonderful people on this tasting tour. We first met Gloria and her 2 grown kids. We also met a professor of international law and his wife who lived in Guanajuato. He taught at the University, where my dad used to teach! |

All sorts of spices! |

We rented this beautiful apartment for a week because we thought we were going to stay in Jerusalem. We changed our mind and decided to stay in Tel Aviv but we couldn't stay another week in this place! We will miss it! |

After the tour, the Chileans gave us a ride home, which was very nice! We packed up and caught a bus to our new home, which is a block from Gordon Beach, right behind the Sheraton. That's the good news. The bad news is that the place was under construction when we got here so it was dirty, and it's kind of small and old -- a real downgrade from our last place! Well, we're not staying long. Oh, and there's a large, cheaper (though still expensive) grocery store around the corner!
In the afternoon we went to see the beautiful sunset and a walk by the beach. The kids were running with excitement!

In the evening, we went back to our old neighborhood (sniff, sniff) to have dinner with the Mexican family at their home. They had a cook from the embassy prepare dinner, so we had authentic Mexican food -- chiles rellenos, tamales, and pozole -- delicious and a taste of home! We had a great time at their house, and Sunshine and Daniel got a good Spanish language workout.

Yummy Mexican dinner at Connie and Sergio's house. Sunshine had a good time chatting in Spanish with their daughters Aileen and Jocelyn! |
