Day 152 - The white city and lunch with Connie and Sergio
Sunday, December 2nd, 2018.
Today we visited the Rothchild Neighborhood which is famous for its many architectural buildings Bauhaus style. We got there like 20 minutes before meeting a Mexican family that Gregory had met in the Rotary Club. Sunshine was very excited to meet their daughters who were about the same age, unfortunately, they couldn't come.
We met at Benedicts, which serves breakfast all day, so even if it was lunch time, we had a delicious and generous breakfast. I had a typical dish called Shakshouka which is a dish of eggs poached in a sauce of tomatoes, chili peppers, and onions, commonly spiced with cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, and nutmeg. I had mine with some kind of cornbread.
Connie and I clicked right away, maybe because we are both Mexicans, maybe because we are far away or maybe because we just liked each other. I had a great time chating with someone in my own languages and being able to express myself and laugh about many things. Connie's husband is a naval admiral in Mexico and was sent here to work for two years. They had arrived a month ago and they thought that we were living here as well. I explained to them what we were doing and why it was so important to meet their daughters. We had a good time, or maybe I did because Sunshine and Daniel didn't have smiley faces for most of the breakfast. The restaurant was empty when we left by 4:00pm and said our good byes. We promised to meet again and meet their daughters.
We stayed in the neighborhood admiring the big buildings and the Bauhaus architect. We continue walking to the Neve Tzedek neighborhood where we saw many art galleries and cute stores selling crafts. We finished our walk at the old train station which it was recommended to see. By then, it was getting dark and we were all ready to return home by bus. We made it home and no one was hungry after the big breakfast lunch!
