Day 122 - From Pristina, Kosovo to Skopje in Macedonia

Thursday, November 1, 2018.

We got up at our usual time. The kids did a little bit of homework, had breakfast and got ready to leave Pristina. We took a taxi to the bus station. What a difference it is to take a taxi from a driver that works because he really needs to. When we got to the bus station at 10:30am, we bought the tickets to go to Skopje at 11:30am. While we waited, we bought "fli" which is a traditional food from Kosovo. Gregory said that it tasted like noodle pudding, I think it tasted like a Spanish tortilla. The ride was smooth and it took two hours to get to Macedonia. We had no idea what to expect. I didn't do the research homework that I said I would before arriving in another country.

Gregory asked the bus driver to drop us off on a street corner, or who knows where, because he said it would be closer than getting off at the bus station. I'm happy someone does their homework. A taxi driver offered us a ride but got disappointed when Gregory said no because we were only five minutes away from our apartment. People were so friendly right away, two people came up to us and offered help and directions. I guess we looked lost. Our host came to find us and walked us to our apartment. After we settled, we went to explore the city. We were very impressed with the city. We saw huge monuments, statues, and buildings. Gregory said that it looked like Las Vegas, Sunshine said that it looked like Rome but new, she calls it "La Nova Roma".
We had a late lunch in a very nice restaurant with a view of the Archeological Museum and a boat that was a restaurant. I felt more like I was at Disneyland.

We felt wealthy because we went to a fancy restaurant. Once we figured out the currency and the value to the dollar, we realized how inexpensive the food was. We all ordered a main dish for the price of $5.50. It took a while for our meals to come, but we enjoyed the music, the view, a family conversation, and the food. After our meal, we walked some more and we all agreed that it was a great city to visit. Tomorrow morning we are doing the free walking tour. We decided to do it right away so we can decide earlier what is worth doing and was not.

Alexander the great behind, although he was from Macedonia, Greece.

I just loved this book stand, it reminded me of my dad's bookshelf at home!
