Day 91 - Krka National Park
Sunday, September 30, 2018.
Today we got up early. OK, early for us is now 7:30am. Maybe no so early. Anyhow, we had breakfast, made lunch, and walked to the bus station. We actually got there early and Gregory went looking for an ATM. Tip: there is always an ATM at the bus station but those are best avoided due to high fees and frequent card theft. Look for a bank ATM, and preferably not in a tourist zone.
The bus left at 10:00am. It was listed as a direct bus, but we ended up taking 3 buses! The last one was the size of an airport shuttle. It finally dropped us in Skradin, one of the entrances to Krka National Park.
We walked up the hill, following a lot of people, looking for the park entrance but they were actually going to the Skradin Hill Climb, a street race for modified cars. When we finally came back to town and found the boat that would take us to the park, we saw that they didn't sell the tickets there. Gregory ran to buy the tickets while we held the boat that left at noon. Luckily we made it, because the next boat came an hour later.
The ride was very pleasant and beautiful. We saw a lot of fish, ducks, and swans. When you get to the national park, you can actually swim in front of the waterfalls. Sunshine was disappointed that she didn't bring her swimsuit but after we touched the water, we realized that we did the right thing. The water came down from the mountains, so it was chilly! Instead, we watched people and fish in the clear, green water.
We started our hike around the 1mile circuit. Well, we didn't really hike much because we kept stopping every 100 feet to take pictures. We found a nice spot to have our lunch, except that a stubborn bee kept getting on Sunshine's sandwich until she finally gave up!
We had a wonderful day in this stunning park! I recharged my soul, we rested, we appreciated the light, the trees, the water, the animals. It was just amazing. The pictures below don't do justice to the beauty we saw and experienced at this amazing park.
We took the 4:30 boat and we were supposed to catch the 5:00 bus to Zadar but the boat was 5 minutes late and the bus had already left! Now we had to wait for an hour in the tiny town. The kids were thrilled because they got their gelato! The bus was 15 minutes late but we finally made it home around 7:30. Daniel wanted to get an Uber from the bus station (a 15 minute walk) and he wanted to stop at Despacito, a cafe down the street from us, but we told him that it had already been an expensive day and he understood. Anyway, I think he wanted to stop mostly because of the name. Maybe also for the chicken nuggets on the menu.
Overall we had a great day. The bummer is that it was expensive to get to Krka. We spent around $90 just to get there and back and it was about $15 per person to get into the park. Ouch! Did I mention that you also have to pay to use the restrooms? At least the ice cream in town was affordable.
