This is how we start our day, walking the dogs in a nice park very close to the apartment. Moose and Mattie like to smell and eat everything they find on their way. We have to be firm and not let them, otherwise, we will have to pick up the consequence.
Going back home there is this funicular or elevator which does not work but has a cool tree mural!

Mattie and I crossing the bridge to go back home |
Mortar impact on the ground! |
Going back home for breakfast after our walk |
On our walk to downtown, we saw some graves in the middle of the city park. Someone told us Islam does not allow graves to be moved! |
Detail of the building |
The eternal flame is a memorial to the military and civilian victims of the Second World War in Sarajevo. We took advantage to warm up our hands! |
Iran Embassy behind |
Pomegranate juice stand. Sunshine loves this fruit so much that every time we go to the grocery store she asks me to buy her one! |
Orthodox Christian Church. They charge to go in so we skipped it. Another day, maybe. |
Getting some exercise outside the Orthodox Church |
The best way to know a city is on foot. Although the temperature was 12 C |
There are many mosques in Sarajevo, 80% of the population in Sarajevo are Muslims. |
Many people think that Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated on the Latin Bridge behind but he was actually assassinated on a corner of the street. See picture below. |
Corner where the Austro-Hungarian archduke was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip who was sent to jail for 20 years since he was only 19 years old. |
I take pictures likes this so I can remember later what to download. Pretty cool and you don't have to pay 20 euros per person for a tour! |
I love this picture, the Mexican cantina in front of the minaret! We are coming back for mojitos at a decent price! |
Cute coffee fountain outside a coffee shop. Bosnian people drink a lot of coffee and they even smoke more, argh! |
Ottoman old town, or Baščaršija. They sell lots of handicrafts and souvenirs but we can't buy anything because we can't carry it. We are not shoppers anyway, although Daniel disagrees because I do stop at the stands and look at jewelry, which I love but don't wear! |
City Hall, known as Vijecnica. On 25 August 1992, Serbian shelling during the Siege of Sarajevo caused the complete destruction of the library; among the losses were most of the library's 1.5 million books as well as several hundred priceless manuscripts. |
Interior of the City Hall. You have to pay to go inside. We saw the pictures of the renovated City Hall, it has some beautiful stained glass on the ceiling after the restoration. |
We saw some beautiful old houses on our way to the funicular. |
The funicular was a little expensive, $12 per person but it was worth it for the view of the whole city of Sarajevo! |
Going up! |
The kids find a kitty at the top and they played with it for a while! |
The temperature was 7 C, freezing and Gregory took us for a hike! He said it would warm us up. Yeah, right! |
Falling down the cliff, ahahaha! |
We found some archeological fortress on our hike looking for the Olympics bobsleds, which by the way, we never found. Gregory wanted to continue but the rest of us didn't because it was too cold! |
The Fortress |
After the funicular, we came down for a warm and yummy Bosnian lunch at Staklo. They didn't speak English but we met a nice French lady with a Bosnian husband who helped us to order. |
Picture menus always handy when you don't speak the language, although, who knows what you are getting! |
Tired and hungry kids, bad combination! |
Onions and grape leaves stuffed with ground beef, delicious! |
Cevapi is the Bosnian traditional dish of beef sausage. |
Daniel keeps finding cats everywhere! |
Ablution fountain where you wash your feet before going into the mosque. |
The Gazi Husrev Beg mosque was built in the 16th century. |
The old Ottoman bazaar, still in use today |
Inside the bazaar. Daniel doesn't look so happy. I was looking for a hat because my ears are freezing! |
The Catholic Cathedral in Sarajevo. 15% of the population in Bosnia is Catholic. It just amazes me to read that all the existing religions in Bosnia lived in harmony for centuries and it took stupid politicians to put them against each other in a short period of time causing the terrible 1992 war! |
Jean Paul II visited Bosnia twice. Nun outside the door. I didn't get the picture that I was looking for! |
Sarajevo Memorial Fountain for the children killed during the siege of 1992=1995 |
Maddie went to check on Sunshine and decided to sleep with her. So sweet! |
