Day 85 - Firenze - Modena
Monday, September 24, 2018.
Our time policeman, aka Daniel, woke up at 7:20am so we could say our goodbyes at 7:30. We thanked, and hugged our hosts. After that, Daniel and Sunshine did some homework while I took a shower. We had breakfast and while the kids finished their homework, Gregory and I walked down to Coop to buy the family some flowers. When we came back, we finished getting ready and had a quick dish of pasta for lunch.
After lunch, Cinzia took two trips to the train station because we couldn't fit the four of us and our suitcases in her car. It worked perfectly! Luckily, Monday was her day off so she was able to drive us, which meant we didn't have to roll our suitcases downhill to the station.
Surprisingly, the train was on time and even arrived on time. We got to the main station in Florence, from there, we bought tickets for the tram. The two ticket machines were broken so Gregorio had to find another place where to buy the tickets (this is Italy). We finally took the tram to the bus station where we waited for an hour. Even Gregory learned that we need to leave almost one hour of extra time in Italy because there is always a late train or a broken machine! We had an hour to spare so we bought coffee and read while we waited for the bus.
We all had to sit separately because the bus was full. Even if only was an hour and a half ride, we all had stories to tell. Sunshine said that the person sitting next to her was using a lot of the space and was talking or praying out loud. My neighbor was constantly getting loud phone calls. Daniel's neighbor didn't have a nice smell and Gregory's neighbor also smelled bad. We got to Modena 10 minutes late which is not bad at all. Eva, our friend from Modena, arrived 5 minutes later to pick us up. We hugged each other and it didn't feel awkward like I thought it would be after so many years of not seeing each other. She drove us to her house where we got to settle and chatted for a little bit. Afterward, we walked into town to meet her son Xe and grandson Lif. We walked to a restaurant that Gregory and I used to go to in the center called Uva d'Oro.
Guess what we ate? Pizza and pasta. Actually, I had tortelloni di zucca, which you can only get in this area. It was pretty good. Afterward, Eva walked back with all the kids and Gregory and I went out for drinks with Xe to a bar called Stile Libero. We had a great chat and a great time! We came home at 1:00am and luckily, the kids were asleep!
