Day 80 - Fiesole - Dinner at Casa Howard
Wednesday, September 19, 2018.
Today we started school at 8:00am. When I went upstairs, Sunshine was already sitting in the dining room working on her essay about the history of Venice. We stayed home resting and doing homework all morning. In the afternoon, everyone came for lunch. Andrea and his mother normally don't come. Cinzia made an American lunch of hamburger and salad and then I went downstairs to take a nap.
At 4:00, Andrea gave us a ride to Fiesole, the next town over, known for its panoramic view of Florence. We walked up the hill to see an amazing view of the valley below. We took lots of pictures, then I visited the church of St. Francis and saw more frescoes. We walked down the hill to the main piazza and had cappuccinos and gelatos while we discussed plans for Croatia. We are all excited to get there, mostly because we will be in one place for two weeks and because we are contemplating the idea of taking a cruise. We'll see. After an hour, we went to a tabacchi to buy bus tickets and hop on the 5:00 bus.
Around 7:30 we went to pick up Andrea from his office. We went to a beautiful bed and breakfast called Casa Howard. The chef was the owner of the apartment in Rome. He had told us about his bed and breakfast in Florence and about making a special dinner for us. The place was awesome, elegant and modern, and we were the only table in the room. Apparently the restaurant (super small) is only for the people staying in the hotel but of course, he made an exception. We had a lovely time and the food was amazing! Unfortunately, Cinzia didn't feel well for a while and couldn't finish, but for the most part, we had a great time!
After dinner when we were walking to the car, we found some of Andrea and Cinzia friends and they talked for half an hour. We made it home around midnight. The kids got to practice their communication skills with Lavinia and her grandmother, who don't speak English!
