Day 75 - Florence- Rome

Friday, September 14, 2018.

Daniel reminds me of my dad. He set up two different alarms at different times to get up early. Andrea gave us a ride early to the train station in Florence. From there we took the tram to make it to the bus station that is outside of Florence. Our bus was supposed to leave at 10:00am and we got there 45 minutes early, but even Andrea said that it was better this way. Well, guess what? When we were waiting for the bus, Gregory got a notification that our bus was going to be delayed two hours!!! This is Italy, "expect the unexpected" is our saying for this country. Sunshine took advantage of the free time to do some homework. I spent time downloading the History pdf pages for Sunshine, Daniel played on his phone, and Gregory went back and forth to find out more about the next possible bus that we could take.
There was an 11:00am bus to Rome, so when that bus arrived, we tried to get on, but the bus driver just said no. He told us that we had to wait for our delayed bus. Gregory just waited there and when another bus driver came, he went to talk to him. I was worried that he was going to argue or something, but he just calmly waited and then, a miracle, the second bus driver agreed to take us. Gregory called us over and we hopped on the bus. I was getting ready to go to the bathroom, and I'm glad I didn't. We got on the bus, each of us sitting next to strangers but it didn't matter, we got on the bus. And good thing, too, because later we found out that our bus just got canceled!! Who knows what time we would have arrived!
The ride was very pleasant. I was determined to catch up on the blog. I have been so busy in Florence and with homework and chatting at night with our friends that I got behind. I apologize to all my loyal readers. Please feel free to leave comments or ask about anything you would like to know about our trip. I had time to eat and nap on the ride. We made it at 2:00pm, not bad, only one hour behind.

I honestly don't know how Gregory knows exactly what he's doing right away. The moment we got off the bus he told us we were taking the metro and then walking to our place. Just like he lived there, he directed us to the metro and then home!
When we saw the apartment, we were happily surprised. It is a beautiful, fancy, classic and well decorated. The owners were waiting to show us the apartment. The younger one, the son, is a chef and actually works in his father's hotel in Florence. He spoke good English and Spanish. We scored with this place. They actually told Gregory that they were raising the price but because we were the first ones to ever be staying there, we got it for only $100 at night, in a nice neighborhood, too.
After the hosts left, I took a shower because it was extremely hot. We rested a little bit and I pushed Sunshine and myself to do some homework.  We decided to wait for the sun to go down before going out.
Around 6:00pm, we went out for dinner to a place called Panne e salami, a delicious and local Italian restaurant. We had tasty salad, meat, and cheese platters on wood dishes. We had a great time! Afterward, we walked to the Fontana di Trevi, which Sunshine and I had already found a little before when we decided to take a walk while Gregory and Daniel waited for our table!
Sunshine and Daniel threw a coin in to wish to come back to Rome. After that, we walked to Plaza Espana and of course, sat on the stairs. We didn't stay long because we wanted to make it to the grocery store. One was closed but of course, Gregory the genius found another one that was open. We got the basics, by now we know what to get, all I have to say is Daniel you get the milk, Sunshine, the salad, Gregorio, our drinks, me the main dish which in Italy is never hard: pasta e basta!
We walked back home and enjoyed our apartment in Rome!
