Day 73 -Florence - Accademia - Music Museum - More Churches

Wednesday, September 12, 2018.

Today we woke up early to catch a ride with Andrea. At first, we were all going to the Accademia but Gregory and Daniel wanted another day off and I just didn't want to drag anybody to the museum. Sunshine and I were dropped early at the Accademia and were inside admiring the David by 9:30! It definitely better to get early to the museums.

We spend a good amount of time admiring the David before it got crowded and we went back to see the "Prisoners" and the other sculptures by Michelangelo. After seeing Reinassance art for a while, we went to the Museum of Music which was next door. Around noon, when we were ready to leave, we discovered other rooms with Medieval art. We didn't spend a lot of time there because we were done.

I have learned that in order to appreciate art, you need to take your time but also, need to stop when you are tired and hungry. By now, the lines to enter the museum were long. Sunshine and I went to a very cute local cafe to have a cappuccino and then we met with Gregory and Daniel for lunch at the Piazza of Santissima Annunziata. They brought tasty panini, a baguette, salami and hummus for lunch. Behind us was the Ospedale degli Innocente. There, you can see a small window where mothers dropped unwanted babies and the city would care for them. To this day, someone with the last name Innocente usually refers to the status of someone in the family being an orphan from this hospital.

We walked some more and went into the San Lorenzo market, then we visited the San Lorenzo chapel with its beautiful cupola. Next, to this church, we saw the Medici Chapel. After this, we headed to the train station to take the train home. We arrived at Caldine around 4:00 and went to Coop, the supermarket to ask for Gregory's sunglasses, but ... still no luck.

We walked up the hill and made it home. We did laundry, homework, and had a delicious dinner cooked by Cinzia. I have been very spoiled about not having to worry about preparing dinner. Although tomorrow, I'm planning to make a Mexican meal!

Our favorite part of the David. No, really!
