Day 64 - Venezia
Monday, September 3rd, 2018.
Today we woke up late, just like I predicted would happen, but Daniel was already working on his school assignment of writing about the trip. Sunshine, on the other hand, was sleeping. We are a little bit concerned that we can't download her school books so we are waiting to hear back from her teachers, but of course, it won't happen today because it is labor day in the US and there is no school.
Gregory and I went to the grocery store by car for the second time since we started our trip. The first time, it was our friend's daughter from Marseille who drove us to get some food. This time, we took the car and went grocery shopping. It is always a challenge when you go shopping in another country. We were used to the Carrefour or french grocery stores and knew what to buy, here in Italy it's another story and we had to do our research to even find out how to say some words in Italian. I left Gregory waiting for the prosciutto and the Formaggio while I started walking around to get the rest of the food. An hour later, we finished our groceries and came home in the car. It felt like a luxury having a car! When we came home, I started lunch, we had no breakfast and we were hungry. We had a nice lunch outside in the backyard and then we left for Venice. This time we got there around 3:00pm. We walked and window shopped, taking our time. Sunshine and I even went into a clothing store and tried on some clothes. I was feeling guilty for not exploring churches or museums but then, she reminded me that we were having fun so I relaxed. After a while, we finally made it to the Basilica di San Marco just to find out that they had closed 20 minutes before! Gregory got really upset, it was our main objective and somehow we had managed to miss it!
After he calmed down, we sat outside in the plaza and had some snacks, then we walked to the Bridge of Sighs- and took many more pictures. We all agree to head back to the bus station before getting too tired. It started to rain a little bit on our way back, and luckily we found a cute cafe bar and had a drink and regained some energy to continue our walk to the bus stop. This time we made it home around 8:00pm, what a difference. We had ravioli and tomato basil salad for dinner. The kids got to talk to their friends at home, Gregory to his dad and me, well, I tried to call my mom but she wasn't home, so I decided to catch up on the blog.
