Day 43 - Paris - Concorde - Louvre - Montmartre

Monday, August 11, 2018.

We bought our tickets to the Louvre the night before. First, it was going to be only Sunshine and I but then, we agreed that Daniel should go as well. How do you teach art to your children if not by showing them some great collections? More importantly, how can you skip the Louvre?

We met with Philip and Georgette at the Louvre at 2:00pm. We were very lucky that they wanted to show us the museum because they know it by heart and Philip has come up with an excellent "best of" tour. He guided us directly to the Nike of Samothrace, works by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Ingres, David, Delacroix, and sculptures by Michelangelo and Canova.

I love art museums but I have to admit that when it is overcrowded and as hot as the Louvre was, it's no longer fun. After two hours, we were ready to leave. Philip and Georgette took us for an early dinner at a beautiful, old-fashioned bistro that is luckily still off most tourist maps, which is why we are not telling you the name! We had a delicious meal (steak frites, confit de canard, poulet roti) and great conversation. After a few hours, we hugged and said our goodbyes.

We continued our tour through Paris. We went to see L'Opera, Beaubourg and the Pompidou Center, had a coffee and a coffee and Nutella crepe in St. Michel. At night we took the funicular to go up and see Sacre Coeur. The church was still open at 10pm so we went inside to see the Byzantine interior. After we went for a walk in the Place du Tertre and I imagined the famous artists and writers hanging out where I was walking. Again, it felt magical. We walked back to the stairs of the Sacre Coeur and sat in the steps for a while to admire the views over Paris at night. The steps felt like a big party, full of people drinking, smoking, eating and more.

We rushed back to get to the metro before midnight.

Gregory kept referring to the Nike as the "hood ornament"

The Mona Lisa is back there somewhere!

Lili calls this one the naked lady with the flag.

The mystery bistro

The kids kept asking, so what does the Pompi do?

It's a party on the steps of Sacre Coeur!

Hurry up, we want to go home!
