Day 59- Nice - Dinner with Descraques Family

Image
Wednesday Agust 29, 2018. We were all tired from the last two days. It sounds hard to believe but traveling can be tiring! We did get up on time so we start getting used to the schedule but we took it very slowly. We finally left the house at around 2:00pm. We didn't know what we were going to do except that I wanted to see the Russian church, Gregory wanted to see the Negresco hotel and the kids didn't want to do anything. We all finally agreed to go to the old town and walk around and have a final Nutella crepe. We were supposed to meet with the Descraques family at 5:00pm but there were waiting for a doctor's appointment so it took them longer to arrive. Meanwhile, Sunshine and I looked in many stores for a swimsuit. We were going for a swim and she didn't bring her swimsuit. It is not her fault, men just don't know how to make plans. [ Gregory's note: I did make plans, but no one wanted to follow them! Note that we did not end up seeing the Negresco.]We...

Day 58 - Nice liberation day and Antibes

Tuesday, August 28th, 2018. Today we got up early to get a little bit of school work done before visiting Antibes. There is not much to be done for Sunshine since we are waiting to hear back from her teachers to download online books. Daniel is still working on his essay about our trip so far. We left the house around 10:30am to take the bus to Antibes. The bus was close to the Hotel Meridien and when we got off the tram we saw the Place Massena full of WWII jeeps, complete with soldiers and civilians in 1940s outfits. Today was the anniversary of the liberation of Nice, and the city still celebrates this day with a parade and laying wreaths at the spots where the French partisans fell to German fire. After taking some pictures, we walked to the bus stop. Again, the bus was only 1.50 euros. It took close to an hour to get there but we made some friends from Australia and Norway on the bus. When we got there, it was time for lunch. We walked and saw all the nice yachts in the por...

Day 57 - Monaco

Monday, August 27, 2018. Today I woke up the kids at 7:30 and started homeschool at 8:00. I will try to make this a habit but it will be challenging with all the moving around. I want to get it done first thing in the morning. On the other hand, it might be better to leave the house early and do homeschooling around 2:00 or 3:00 when it is really hot out and locals hide in their houses. We'll see. I think the key to success in this trip is to be flexible and adjust to change quickly. Yesterday, for example, was the first time I had to put on my swimsuit at the beach. Sunshine said, whatever, like the surfers do it all the time but me, well, not really. I had to think fast, either get in the nice refreshing water, which I really wanted to do, or stay in my clothes watching the kids. Well, I'm glad I chose what I wanted but sometimes it's not easy. You get the point. Homeschool took about an hour. I had Sunshine read about her new Independent Learning program and get i...
