Day 9 - Lisbon, Portugal - Sevilla, Spain

Last breakfast at Lisbon. |
Gregory reminded me that we needed to catch a 9:30am bus. We left the house carrying our duffle bags, which are not so light and then we walked to the corner of our street to wait for Uber which is always on time and reliable. Well, guess what? Today of all the days, our Uber driver didn't know where the bus station was, he had only been in the city for a month! He was from Brazil, he was very nice, but I was ready to kill him when he said that Uber had canceled the ride. At that point, Gregory said, I don't care, we will pay you cash but we need to leave now. The driver also explained that his cell phone was new and he was still figuring out.

Really! I thought. I was just thanking my dad for always teaching me to leave extra early in case some things happen and this time it did. We made it to the bus station after he asked around at 9:25am. We ran and I started to ask all the drivers for the bus to Faro. It left as soon as we boarded! I was so stressed and shaky but happy that we had barely made it on time. Then, at the first stop, Gregory and I ran to the bathroom. Of course, Gregory was done in a second, while I had to wait on line and by the time I finished and ran to the bus, it was almost leaving!! Gregory had to stop the driver. I don't do well with stress. We left and we arrived at Faro at 1:40pm (the schedule said 1:00) just in time to catch the next bus to Sevilla at 1:55pm.
We were all nervous because there were no signs or anything to be seen that could inform us where we were supposed to wait for the bus. I went to ask at the ticket office while Gregory asked someone else. We were at the right stop and our bus was late which was why we couldn't find it. Finally, we arrived, we got in showing my cell phone with the info on the bus driver who didn't bother to see each ticket or check on our passports. "Vale, con ver solo uno me basta. Well, I just need to see one". Viva Espana!
I finally relaxed and took a nap. I finished a chick flick film and ate my lunch. It was a pleasant ride until we stopped at Huelva and some loud ladies got on the bus. It was hilarious to see how loud they were and what they were arguing. It was like watching a soap opera and more when they sat behind me and I could hear all their gossip. The poor lady had lost her bus ticket and she had to buy another one. When we finally arrived in Sevilla, the lady behind me screamed: Un milagro, un milagro (a miracle, a miracle) I found the ticket! I couldn't help it and smile. The neighbor said: "en hora buena paisana!"
It was 6:00pm when we got to Sevilla. Gregory asked us if we wanted to take Uber or walk for 10 minutes. Did he really ask that? I mean we are all tired, the heat and the heavy suitcases, no-brainer, we all said Uber but guess what, there's no Uber in Sevilla! So I suggested a taxi. Two of them refused to give us a ride because of the suitcases, they suggested taking two taxis. Of course not, we found another taxi with a bigger trunk that took us downtown.
We still had to walk on cobblestone streets for a while because the apartment is literally in the middle of the pedestrian zone and no cars are allowed. When we found it, we still had to climb two flights with our suitcases. Why are we doing this again? I thought. We made it to our cute, tiny apartment in Sevilla. it only has one bedroom, the kids will have to sleep in the main room but there is a bed for Sunshine and a couch for Daniel. The heat was unbearable. I took a shower and when I came out, I felt the air conditioning which is not a luxury but a necessity with this weather. After that, Gregory and I went to the grocery store for food while the kids recovered and even if we had food, we decided to go out for dinner.
Sevilla is full of life, we finished a delicious dinner at 10:00pm and everybody was out in the streets walking. Sunshine is loving it already, she says it's her schedule. We walked a little more and then we came home to catch up on emails, write the blog and watch TV in Spanish, yeah, it is a nice break for me!
