Catedral de Sevilla. |
We woke up at 10:50 this morning! We were so tired from going to bed at midnight. I use to think that we needed to start early and try to cover as much as possible but now my priorities have changed. Resting and food are my priority now. We had a late brunch and then we left the house around noon. The heat hit us hard. Now I know why people nap and go inside their houses at lunchtime like in Mexico. I think only crazy tourist like us were outside in the heat of the day, seeing beautiful Sevilla. We walked to the Cathedral of Seville also known as the
Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See. It is considered the third largest church in the world as well as the largest Gothic church.
We walked to
Plaza Espana, which is amazing and beautiful, on the way, we discovered an amazing park called
Parque Maria Luisa. The kids told me that they prefer to see nature and go on hikes than walking and seeing old buildings. Sigh, this is going to be a long year. Gregory went ahead to Plaza Espana and I took the kids to the park. It is amazing what nature does to you. We walked around, saw beautiful trees and just relaxed. After half an hour we caught up with Greg and walked to Plaza Espana. By then, it was hotter and the kids started to ask for food. We decided to eat out for lunch, and have dinner at home later. It is hard to make decisions when you are tired, hot and hungry. We actually found an awesome inexpensive bar that had "montaditos" for a euro. It was like tortas or small sandwiches. We had a big salad and our sandwich and of course, a big glass of "sangria". Yes, I'm having my daily medicine of sangria, a Spanish drink!

After you eat, everything seems better! We then walked to "
Los Reales Alcazares". We hadn't planned to pay to go inside but I'm glad we did because so far, it has been the highlight of the trip. It is the most amazing palace and gardens that I have ever seen!
The term Alcazar comes from the Arabic al-qaṣr, ("the castle" or "the palace). The Alcazar of Seville is a royal palace built
for the Christian kingPeter of Castile. It was built by Castilian Christians on the site of an Abbadid Muslim residential fortress[ destroyed after the Christian conquest of Seville. Although some elements of other civilizations remain. The palace, a preeminent example of Mudejar architecture in the Iberian Peninsula, is renowned as one of the most beautiful. The upper levels of the Alcázar are still used by the royal family as their official residence in Seville, and are administered by the Patrimonio Nacional. It is the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe.
We spent a few hours admiring the place and taking pictures in every corner. At 7:00pm, the kids were done and ready to go home. We walked back, made dinner of chicken nuggets and salad. We also had popcorn with olive oil instead of butter, relaxed more and plan the day for tomorrow and our trip to Morroco.
