Day 335 - Day in Ao Nang, Krabi

Friday, June 7th, 2019

It is great to be on vacation, no alarm clock or anything to worry about. The kids slept in. I went for a swim in the pool. Even if the water was murky, it felt good. We had late breakfast, just before 10:00, when they start to clean up. Afterward, Gregory and Daniel went back to their rooms. Sunshine and I went for a walk on the beach. We cleaned up a bag of trash, took some pictures and went shopping.

The weather forecast had predicted rain all day but it was only cloudy and actually got hot while we were looking at the souvenir shops. We stopped for a coconut and then continued our shopping. I like to make conversation with the people at the stores. We met a man from Burma (as he called it). I told him that he must have left Myanmar a long time ago, if he called it that. He said he was 10 years old when he came with his family. We chatted for a bit and of course, was happy to hear that we liked his country.

We also met a man from Nepal who shared his story while Sunshine was trying on a pair of pants. He told me how he came to Thailand
illegally, without a penny and not knowing the language. He explained that he couldn't give us a better price because the rent was so high. I felt bad for trying to reduce the price and then at the end, Sunshine didn't like the pants. I apologized and the man sweetly said, don't worry.

Sunshine was thrilled to find a present for her best friend. I bought some souvenirs for friends as well and then we went back to the hotel. It was so hot that I told Sunshine that we should head to the pool but of course, the moment we stepped in the room and felt the AC, we didn't want to go to the pool. We did some yoga together and then she went to the pool with Daniel. I stayed and read and read [Fall of the Giants by Ken Follett].

Around 5:00 we went out for lunch with Peter, a guy Gregory met on the plane. We went back to Kodam Kitchen, which we wanted to try the first night. The food was good and the staff was really friendly. They gave us a free dessert: bananas in coconut milk! Afterward, we walked the kids back to the hotel and we went with Peter to a cool bar called Luna Beach Bar. Peter told us that it was happy hour all the time and the drinks were 50% off, still not super cheap but a good price for a mojito. When we were getting ready to leave, it started to pour down rain so we waited and I ordered another drink. We had a good time chatting. We left and we agreed to visit Railey Beach together if it was a sunny day. We got back to our hotel around 10:00pm and went straight to the kids' room to wish them good night. Daniel recalled the night I didn't go to say our prayers and put him to bed. Sunshine doesn't say anything but I can tell that she likes it. I'm so happy to see how close we have become, she wants to be hugged and kissed often! [Gregory's note: don't let her see this blog until she's 24.]
