Day 249 - Flight form Jaipur to Udaipur

Wednesday, March 13, 2019.

Today we arrived in Udaipur and took an uber to our hotel that was like an hour away. We stayed at a hotel called Gajkaran Haveli that had the view of Lake Pichola. The hotel looked much better in pictures than in reality but the manager was super nice and gave us a room to rest. We arrived at 9:00am but check-in was at 11:00am. We had breakfast on the roof and admired the view. We met some people from Vancouver who told us that the internet wasn't good there. Daniel was disappointed. They also told us that Sunshine and I shouldn't walk alone because something unfortunate had happened to her. This is not the first time people warned us about women walking alone.

We rested in the morning and right after breakfast, our rooms were ready. Like I said, it wasn't anything fancy but they were clean at least. The room had a great view but it was too close from the main bridge were lots of motorcycles, cows, and pedestrians walking by so it was also noisy. Right away, Gregory and I knew that we had to look for another place to stay, especially because we wanted to spend a week here. We only paid for two nights.

After settling down, we toured the city and it is definitely charming with the lake and the bridges and the old castles. Even if we came from Delhi and Rishikesh where we had seen so many cows and trash on the streets, I was still impressed with how dirty the streets are and how many stray dogs were everywhere. I can not describe what you have to smell walking through the streets, mostly it smells like urine with spices and onion, as well as all the cow patties. Not good, I can tell you.

Another annoying part of walking through the streets of India is that you really have to pay attention where are you stepping otherwise you can step on a cow or dog poop. As if this wasn't enough, a lot of people spit like it was something natural and acceptable. My kids kept telling me to focus on something else but all my senses were so receptive to everything. It is very overwhelming! (You could definitely tell she was not happy.)
