Day 237 - First Day in New Delhi - Dentist

Thursday, February 28th,  2019.

Today we woke up at 10:00am not only because we went to bed later and were tired, but because we didn't know it was morning. We were staying in a cave! We need to turn on all the lights in the house (and they are the ugly fluorescent ones) to be able to see!

I promise I didn't complain. [Gregory's note: not much.] The place is not as nice as it looks in the pictures but whatever, we're only here for 5 days and we all have a bedroom and a bathroom. We will get used to it. The unit also came with a complimentary breakfast of eggs and cookies, so it's not so bad.

We had a late breakfast (I saved the yogurts that no one ate on the plane) and then researched dentists in the area since Sunshine's tooth is been hurting. [Gregory's note: hey Sunshine, what time is it? 2:30! You have to say it out loud.]

Gregory found a nice dentist with excellent reviews two doors down. We walked over at noon to see if she could take us in but she wasn't there. We made an appointment for 5:00pm. After that, we walked down the street looking for a grocery store. Instead, Gregory found a liquor store (he was frustrated that last night they were closed) and got a haircut while Sunshine and I had a chai waiting for him. Daniel stayed home, of course. [Gregory's note: of course he did -- the Wifi was 100mbps!]

On our way back home, we stop at a street stand for lunch. It smelled delicious and we thought it would be OK to eat it since everything is fried or well cooked. [Gregory's note: OK, I know what you're thinking right now! We've heard all the warnings. We even met a guy who said he got diarrhea from just looking at the street food in India. Spoiler alert: we're all healthy, the food was fine.]

We ate the delicious food at home and rested for a little bit. Before we knew it, it was time to go to the dentist. Sunshine was very nervous and later disappointed to find out that she had two cavities in the same tooth! The dentist took care of that and then cleaned her teeth. In fact, we all had our teeth cleaned. When my turn came, the dentist looked at my teeth and said, "this is pretty bad." I got scared. He needed to replace 2 fillings, they were very worn out. We ended up spending more time and money that we planned to but still less than we would have paid in the US for one person. The whole bill came to $250 for 4 cleanings and 5 fillings! [Gregory's note: the office was clean and modern. The only way you would know you were not in the US was the framed picture of Ganesh on the wall.]

He told us to come back with Sunshine's retainer so they could make a new one but we forgot because after the dentist we stopped at another clinic to find out about hair removal for Sunshine. We found out that she can't do the treatment because we are taking the antibiotic for malaria!
After that, we went home had dinner and watched Hindi TV.
