Day 92 - Zadar - October is here!
Monday, October 1st, 2018.
I can't believe it's October. We have officially traveled for three months, unbelievable! I remember when I was so stressed planning this trip! Once again, I need to remind myself that the hard part is the preparation and having the initiative to start. Once you decide that you are going to do it and you go for it, everything starts to flow.
Today was a cloudy and lazy day at our home. All we did was to walk to the Galleria, which is a shopping mall near our home. Only Gregory and I went. We walked around and saw all the stores the gallery has. There are more cafes and gelaterias that charge less than in downtown -- of course.
We went to a beauty supply store then we went downstairs to the grocery store. I got a headache trying to figure out what to buy, calculating the prices in dollars and comparing if it was cheaper than Tommy. It seems that Gregory enjoys this sort of comparison shopping. Personally, I miss Trader Joe's where I knew exactly what to get and where to find it. I should be excited to see all the local foods but I have to say the selection of food is much smaller than in the US. Especially fruit and vegetables. Our Airbnb host told us that everyone buys produce at the market, which we did and found a big, fresh lettuce.
The culture here is similar to Italy, where people only buy what they need and eat fresh. There are no leftovers because you just buy just what you need each day! I have to admit that is definitely healthier, although not as convenient! I think the US is all about convenience. [Gregory's note: Lili isn't even American and here she is, addicted to convenience! It's not just easy, it's an addiction.]
We came home, made lunch and then we read all afternoon. The day was perfect to stay home because it was cloudy and cold. Gregory got picked up at 5:00pm to go to the Rotary meeting. Danielito managed to connect my laptop to the TV and we streamed Ferris Bueller while a storm raged outside. Gregory made it home around 10:00pm. He said the roads were a mess! There is no drainage on the highways, just some of the newer roads.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that Sonja came to check on us to make sure that the internet is working. She is so worried because she knows that we need it for the kids' school. She even offered to find another place to stay if necessary. I told her that in the morning we were fine. The kids are a little frustrated because they can't stream as much as they would like to, but that's ok. She was so sweet, she brought us homemade coconut muffins, which we devoured with warm coffee milk!

Sitting out back (front?). Note the figs, grapes, pomegranates, and olives! |
