Day 118 - Prishtina, Kosovo

Image
Sunday, October 29, 2018  t was a very long bus ride but we finally made it to Prishtina in Kosovo at 10:00am. Yikes, it took us 12 hours to make it here! The bus station wasn't great, kind of empty and then I realized it was Sunday! We took a taxi to our apartment which luckily was ready because previously, the lady had emailed Gregory saying that it was occupied and that we were going to have to wait. The apartment is very nice and modern. It felt so good to take a shower. Did I mention that on Airbnb one of the amenities listed was that it had hot water 24/7? If they had to add that, I can not imagine how the other apartments are. We had our bus snacks for breakfast: nuts and fruit and then we took a nap for a few hours. After resting, we walked around our neighborhood. I have to say that I felt like walking in the poor streets of Mexico and I wasn't sure what we were doing here. Of course, I was hungry. We found a small restaurant where we had a yummy kebab dish for 2 ...

Day 117 - Last day in Sarajevo - Night Bus to Pristhina, Kosovo

Saturday, October 27, 2018. Today we did our usual routine but after breakfast, we cleaned up the house and finished packing because we plan to leave today but we were in standby in case Kelsey and Rocco's plane got delayed in London. Everything went fine, they arrived a little earlier than expected when we were finishing lunch at home. The dogs were thrilled to see them. We finished, then left the apartment to do our last stroll in the old town. First, we stopped for a photo session at the park. Then we walked to the old town and again, I had to go to the bathroom. It has become a nuisance. Luckily the old town is full of nice coffee places and we stopped at a very nice one (Cafe Dialog). Our mission was to go buy the bus tickets for tonight but when we made it to the bus line office, it was closed. Those who know me can imagine how I felt. I freaked out. Gregory of course, all calm, told me not to worry, that we could buy the tickets on the bus like they had told us. Luckily fo...

Day 116 - Tunnel of Hope in Sarajevo

Friday October 26, 2018. Today after our usual routine we took the tram to the Tunnel of Hope. We first walked downtown to buy tickets for the tram. I really love my hubby because he always finds new ways to get somewhere. Sometimes it drives me crazy but if we want to make this trip to last for a year, we need to stick to our budget. Yesterday, I asked the taxi drivers with a big smile how much they would charge to take us to the tunnel, which is outside the city, near the airport. They said 20 euros one way. OK, that was out of the question, considering the tram was about $1.50 each. I also love to take public transportation because you get to see the city and the real people. Did I mention that I love to watch people? I noticed that older people don't smile as much as younger ones. My theory is all the suffering they had lived through! Some of them could have lived through more than one war. They certainly lived through communism, which in Yugoslavia means, the good time. ...
