Day 89 - Zadar
Friday, September 28, 2018.
We got up late today, it really feels like a vacation. The kids did some homework, which was a bit of a struggle because we don't have a good internet connection. We left the house after a late lunch. The day was gorgeous, sunny and warm! We took the kids to the old town. Gregory was on a mission to find the Andy Warhol exhibition because it was the last day it was being shown. When we got to town, we asked different locals for directions and everyone sent us a different way. Of course, Gregory found it. Only Sunshine and Gregory went in. Daniel and I went for ice cream and took a nice walk by the Adriatic Sea.
It is moments like this that I realized that it really doesn't matter where you are, it's the quality time that we give our children that matters. And of course, I knew this, but it is hard to do when you get caught up with the speedy working life in the U.S. When I think about home, all I can think of is me always rushing somewhere, always so busy, working, driving kiddos somewhere, cooking and never stopping to breath. Well, today I did and it felt really nice.
Gregory and Sunshine caught up with us later and we walked to the end of the peninsula where the cruise boats arrive (apparently Zadar is the new tourist port) and where there is a big circular monument called A Greeting to the Sun. It is made of solar panels that start to light up like a dance floor at dusk. We sat at the edge of the port and watched a beautiful sunset.
We walked back home, stopping to admire the art of a local artist. He was very nice, he recommended a Mexican writer and gave Daniel a small poster of a cat! We are considering buying some of his art and sending it home. We really want to buy art from each place that we go, support the locals and have nice art on our walls when we come home, but then again, we can't carry anything else in our suitcases!
We left empty handed and promised the man that we would come back later in the week. We got home and made pasta, unbelievable! We said we were going to cut down on pasta after having it almost every day for a month in Italy! After dinner, the kids were frustrated because the internet connection wasn't working so well, me, I just felt like being lazy and watched tv until 11:00pm. We all relaxed and went to bed at midnight!
